During the two recent Mastery Workshops on Organic Chemistry & Mole Calculations, i realized that many students are finding the chapters on Acids, Bases & Salts difficult. Many have said that the content is pretty heavy for this particular chapter, and they can’t seems to be able to answer the application-type questions in exams.

There are several others that don’t even understand where acids & bases are seen in our everyday lives.
Let us start the discussion by observing where they are found in our enviroment.

During the Mole Calculation Mastery Workshop over the last weekend, i noticed to many students do not know how to obtain an Ionic Equations when given a question that has information based on word equation.

In order to benefit more students, especially those avid readers and learners (both locally and overseas), let me share with you the simple 7 steps that are required for you to obtain the Ionic Equation.

Step 1: Write down the Chemical Formulae of reactant & products.

Step 2: Check the number of atoms of each element on both sides.

It was another Awesome event! In 1 full day of Focus Learning, we managed to share our knowledge on Mole Calculations to a group of students committed to their success, and ensuring that they are equipped with all the essential basic concepts to handle all kinds of application questions in upcoming major chemistry examinations.

We have gone through step-by-step comprehensively (with exam-based questions) on Writing Chemical and Ionic Equations, Meaning of Spectator Ions, The Mole, Molar Mass & Mole, Volume of Reacting Gases, Volumetric Titrations, Concentrations (mol/dm3 & g/dm3), % Compostion of  Compound, Emprical & Molecular Formulae, Molar Gas Volume, Limiting & Excess Reactants, % Yield and % Purity.

Mole Calculations Mastery Workshop is SOLD OUT!

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow @ the workshop.

Pictures will be out in few days time. Meanwhile, for those i cannot coach you personally, please keep your energy high up.

Remember this: “Wanting leads to Wanting, Doing Leads to Having”.

Work hard towards your goals! If you have been studying very hard for chemistry but have yet to score the marks you need, it means you do not have a strong foundation for your chemistry concepts. Do find help if that is the case bcos Chemistry is all about application of basic foundations of essential concepts.

Hi Parents and Students readers,

This might be an interesting blogpost where both of parties can understand the reason for choosing a certain location and time for studying. Please do note that these are suggestions that we believed works best for students in preparing for their revision, but it differs in performance in casde-by-case basis.

In Accelerated Learning Technologies, one of the most crucial part is on Focus Learning. You will need to devote time and energy to concentrate and focus on your studying.

Two days ago, we mentioned that Mole Calculations is the number 1 killer topic in O Level Chemistry, and many students are not doing well for it. In fact, a large number of students skip the calculation-based questions when they see it on examination, fearing that they spend alot of time on that question, and yet could not answer it.

Over the years, this topic is often voted the “Hot Favorite” on students’ challenging topics. Some have

  • problems understanding what the question is asking for,
  •  do not know where to start,
  • totally blank when they read the question,

Halo everyone,

Over last few years, many students that i spoke to always complaint to me about Mole Calculations. Parents that called up to ask for help in Chemistry for their child always never failed to mention that their child cannot understand and score the “Calculation part of Chemistry“.

Several months ago, we decided to start a poll/survey for readers of this chemistry blogsite to investigate on the biggest challenge that students faces in learning chemistry. Months later, we have more than 100 polls on their biggest challenge, and this exclude those that read this blog, but did not do their polling. There are certainly thousands and millions of students that do not know this chemistry blogsite yet. I certainly would like to know how they feel about it. Do feel free to forward this blogsite for their learning.

Here is an common question on Mole Calculations. More specifically it involves skills in balancing chemical equations and writing ionic equations.

PS: Try it out and leave your suggested answer at the “Comments Section” right below this post.

Question:
Lead carbonate reacts with nitric acid to form 3 other products.
a) Identify the 3 products formed and write a balanced chemical equation.
b) Identify the spectator ions and then write the ionic equation.

Popularity: 15%

In Chemistry, an equation represents what occurs in a chemical reaction:

LHS –> RHS
Reactants –> Product(s)

3 types:
• Word Equation
• Chemical Equation
• Ionic Equation

For Chemical Equation –> Using Chemical Formulae to represent a reaction known to take place.

Step 1: Write down the Chemical Formulae of reactant & products.

Na + Cl2 –> NaCl ——- Balanced???

Step 2: Check the number of atoms of each element on both sides.

Above equation is not balanced. An equation is balanced when there is equal number of atoms if each element on both sides of the equation.

It was another Awesome event! In 2 days (in fact in 8hrs plus) we managed to share our knowledge on Organic Chemistry to a group of students committed to their success, and ensuring that they are equipped with all the essential basic concepts to handle all kinds of application questions in upcoming major chemistry examinations.

We have touched base comprehensively on Fuels and Introduction, Homologous Series, Functional Groups and the Physical & Chemical Properties of all families of organic compounds. We have also covered extensively on Macromolecules with lots of industrial and everyday life examples.
