Halo students and avid readers,
This is one of the latest question sent in on Chemistry Practical. It’s a good question which I think some students would love to find out the answers as well, isn’t it?
“I wanted to ask what’s the correct/appropriate way to wash test tubes when you’re having a Chemistry practical? Because i’ve faced shortage of time, and it’s because i wasted a lot of time to wash my test tubes. Some students maybe more “kiasu” and they washed the test tubes multiple times to ensure it’s clean.
For example, i’ve 6 test tubes, but i’m required to do 7 or 8 experiments, so i’ve got to wash the test tubes. However, the test tube i’m re-using again, may have traces of the previous solution left and thus, affecting the result of the current one. Please do advise me on the correct and advisable method to wash my test tubes!
Is it okay to wash my test tube just with plain tap water or distilled water? Or both? And i do believe most schools provide a brush, which can fit into the test tube to remove solid particles or ppt which hardens and stays in the test tubes, am i required to use it, or it can be ignored?
This is approximately how i wash my test tube

Hi,
I manage to come across these series of videos through a good friend from Malaysia. Truly inspirational speech/lectures from a dying professor that are giving his last lecture series. Now, i am proud to share with you on such a motivational figure that would like to walk the rest of his steps on earth by lecturing positivesness to as many people/students as possible.
Randy Pausch set the tone early in Sept 2007 at his farewell lecture at Carnegie Mellon University.
“If I don’t seem as depressed or morose as I should be, sorry to disappoint you,” said Dr. Pausch.
Hi,
I was looking around for more ideas to make Chemistry more interesting to my students and found out a this gem video titled The Atom Song. It is a cool song about the scientists that played their part in the theory of the Atom. For my former students, how i wish i have started this website at your time so that i can add more colors to your Chemistry learning to an already good experience. Nevertheless, hope this song inspires you to do better in your A Levels and University higher education.
Halo,
Have you heard of anyone who said Chemistry are boring subjects? You should not be one of them if you are seeing this post. I certainly disagree with that statement and have been relating to others between Chemistry Theories with Real Life examples and applications in order to convince them - the Chemsitry is so fun. Even with all these being done, i still have people coming to me and tell me that Chemistry is boring since there is no movies or songs that revolves around them.

I have been chatting with some of my students on MSN or via email, to find out how they are doing lately during their holidays. And it came to my awareness (and unhappiness in a way) that schools (especially the elite school) are already packing lots of homework for the students. Some homework are due upon school opening, whilst others are to be submitted during Dec “remedial” class. Seems like the school are again afraid of not able to finish their Secondary 4 syllabus again (This actually happened to lots of school this year!). Personally, i thought learning should be more fun and relaxing manner. In this way, the knowledge will be more applicable to real-life situation and the education will be more holistic.
Now, let’s go back to the subject of Chemistry. Is Chemistry really that difficult to learn & score?
